Query Explanation

The alert evaluates each Thanos rule component (grouped by job and instance) and fires when the 5‑minute evaluation rate (rate(prometheus_rule_evaluations_total[5m])) is zero and the component still has rules loaded (thanos_rule_loaded_rules > 0). In other words, if a Thanos instance has rules but has performed no evaluations for the past ~10 minutes, the alert triggers.
